“Local Non-Profit Celebrates Four Decades of Assisting Individuals with Neurological Disorders in Wendover”

Wendover-based charity, the Chilterns Neuro Centre, is celebrating a significant milestone as it marks 40 years of providing support to individuals in the local community who are affected by MS, Parkinson’s, and strokes.

Established in 1985 by a group of dedicated volunteers, the charity was initially created to offer care and assistance to those with MS in ways that were not available through the NHS. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services to include crucial support for individuals affected by Parkinson’s and stroke, offering therapies, exercise programs, social groups, and emotional support for both individuals and their families.

From humble beginnings, the Chilterns Neuro Centre has grown into a reputable and trusted resource for hundreds of individuals in the local community, providing much-needed support that improves overall quality of life and well-being. The organization’s devoted team of staff and volunteers continue to ensure that those facing long-term neurological conditions are not left to manage on their own.

Richard Parkin, CEO of the Chilterns Neuro Centre, expressed his pride in reaching this significant milestone, stating, “We are incredibly proud to be celebrating our 40th anniversary. What started as a small group of determined individuals has developed into a thriving community resource. This milestone is not only a time to commemorate our achievements but also to express our gratitude to our volunteers, supporters, and staff who make our work possible. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to supporting those who need us, both now and in the future.”

One of the earliest members of the Chilterns Neuro Centre, Lynsey Street, reflects on the organization’s evolution over the years, stating, “There have been new buildings, treatments, and staff, all working towards improving the lives of our members and enabling them to lead as fulfilling a life as possible.”

Another early member, Kay Lewis, acknowledges the significant growth and progress of the organization, saying, “The magnificent building and facilities we have today seem like a world away from how they were in the past. While we are fortunate to have these resources, what truly matters – the dedication, care, and compassion – remains unchanged.”

Individuals who have been diagnosed with MS, Parkinson’s, or have experienced a stroke, and believe they would benefit from the services offered by the Chilterns Neuro Centre, or know someone who would, are encouraged to get in touch. They can contact the organization by calling 01296 696133 or emailing info@chilternsneurocentre.org.
