Klöber’s 90-Year Journey to Success, Crafted at Lake Constance

Owingen, 12.11.2025 – In 1935, a 25-year-old woman named Margarete Klöber bravely entered the male-dominated furniture industry and founded her own company. As a qualified foreign correspondent, Klöber had a passion for promoting healthier sitting and thus created the Polstergleich, one of the first ergonomic office chairs in Germany. This innovative model, with its sprung construction and adjustable backrest, not only became a success but also established Klöber as a pioneer in modern seating.

Now, nine decades later, the company from Owingen in the Bodensee region is paying homage to its beginnings with a new design that blends the past with a fresh start – the CoMeet C35. Designed by Jörg Bernauer, this swivel chair pays tribute to the legendary Polstergleich with its distinctive wooden starbase and minimalist rotating spindle. Its seat shell, made of PET felt or recycled polypropylene, also brings the theme of sustainability into the present.

In addition to the CoMeet C35, the Connex model has also received a new look in honor of Klöber’s 90th anniversary. As a response to the common issues with conventional mesh fabrics, such as transparency, physical coolness, and offcuts in production, Klöber has introduced the Connex Mesh Melange. This fabric is knitted to fit without any offcuts and offers breathability, elasticity, and comfort in every sitting position.

Klöber’s CEO, Thomas Möller, emphasizes the brand’s commitment to combining sustainability and innovation in all of their products. This philosophy has been at the core of Klöber’s success and continues to shape the company today, from material selection and durable construction to a clear and timeless design language. Klöber’s chairs have established themselves as staple pieces in any space, just as Margarete Klöber’s Polstergleich did back in 1935.
