Heidelberg Continues Strategic Growth with Acquisitions and Partnerships in Core Business and New Markets
On Wednesday 19 August, 2026, Heidelberg Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) announced its plans for continued growth and development in the printing and packaging sector, as well as expansion into new markets.
In order to strengthen its core business, Heidelberg has acquired manroland sheetfed lifecycle business and POLAR production operations. This acquisition further solidifies Heidelberg’s position as a systems integrator in its core business. Additionally, Heidelberg has secured the intellectual property rights for the Roland 900 / Cartonmaster in the large-format sheetfed offset segment, with the first press of this model already sold.
In a move to tap into new potential, Heidelberg has also entered into a partnership with Skyeton, a Ukrainian drone developer, to create an autonomous system of systems for the European defense sector. This partnership was solidified at the recent international aerospace trade show ILA Berlin, where Heidelberg also opened a Live Hub to demonstrate integrated counter-UAS capabilities.
Furthermore, Heidelberg is expanding into the energy storage systems market through its partnership with Swiss business PHENOGY. This collaboration will see Heidelberg’s subsidiary, HD Advanced Technologies, handling the industrial manufacturing of complete energy storage systems for PHENOGY, with plans for a joint venture focusing on the development and industrial manufacturing of sodium-ion battery cells.
Despite challenging market conditions, Heidelberg has had a solid start to its financial year 2026/2027. The company reported incoming orders of €537 million, only slightly down from the previous year, and sales of €404 million. The company’s adjusted EBITDA margin for the first quarter of financial year 2026/2027 was 0.2 percent, in line with expectations.
Looking forward, Heidelberg is expecting stable Group sales and a noticeable improvement in its adjusted EBITDA margin for the financial year 2026/2027. The company is also focused on expanding its service, consumables, and spare parts business, as well as entering into new business areas such as high-precision plant engineering and green technologies.
Heidelberg Druckmaschinen AG has been a leading technology company in the mechanical engineering sector for 175 years, with a focus on innovation, quality, and reliability. With its strong international presence and dedicated employees, the company is well-positioned for future growth.
