Hampshire’s Age Concern Launches Winter Campaign to Aid Senior Citizens During the Holidays

Age Concern Hampshire has announced the launch of their annual Christmas campaign, “Past, Present, and Future,” aimed at supporting older people as they navigate the challenges of the winter season. The campaign will focus on three key issues that significantly impact the lives of older individuals: winter pressures, falls, and isolation and loneliness.

With the goal of raising awareness and securing vital funds and volunteers, Age Concern Hampshire hopes to continue providing essential services to older adults across the county. Winter can be a particularly difficult time for older people, and the charity is addressing this by helping residents access financial support and providing guidance with form-filling through their Information Service. This includes assistance with benefit applications for heating and fuel costs, ensuring that older people receive the necessary support to stay safe and well during the colder months.

Fall prevention is another crucial focus of the campaign. Through their Care and Wellbeing Centres and Foot Care clinics, Age Concern Hampshire helps older people maintain mobility, manage foot health, and reduce the risk of accidents. These services not only protect physical wellbeing but also contribute to independence and confidence at home.

In addition to these initiatives, the campaign also tackles the issue of isolation and loneliness, which can intensify during the Christmas season. Age Concern Hampshire offers support at their Care and Wellbeing Centres and through their Help at Home service, which provides assistance in the home. The charity also provides practical support and social groups to help older people stay connected, engaged, and supported throughout the winter.

Volunteers play a crucial role in Age Concern Hampshire’s work throughout the year. From offering companionship to supporting practical services in centres, their dedication ensures that older people in Hampshire receive care, connection, and independence. Age Concern Hampshire is also inviting donations from individuals and corporate supporters. Brogan Rehill, Head of Fundraising and Volunteer Services at Age Concern Hampshire, emphasized the unique challenges that winter brings for older people. “Our Christmas campaign highlights the services we provide and the ways the community can help,” Rehill stated. “By donating or supporting our work, everyone can play a part in ensuring no older person in Hampshire faces the season alone.”

Founded in 1985, Age Concern Hampshire is dedicated to providing services to older individuals in Hampshire. The charity offers support at their Care & Wellbeing Centres throughout the county, as well as Foot Care clinics, Help at Home, Information via their Information Hub, Hospital to Home Services, and Community Information Volunteer Services. Their mission is to help people “Age well and Live well.”
