The World Health Summit (WHS) 2026, a premier platform for global health discourse, has brought together more than 4,000 participants from 130 countries in Berlin, with tens of thousands joining online from October 11 to 13. This year’s theme, “From Crisis to Resilience: Innovating for Health,” sets the stage for comprehensive discussions among leaders from politics, science, civil society, and the private sector.

Critical topics under discussion include the challenges posed by Ebola and other infectious diseases, antibiotic resistance, and strategies for pandemic preparedness. Additionally, the Summit highlights the importance of resilient health systems and addresses healthcare delivery in conflict scenarios, such as those currently facing Ukraine. The leadership of the World Health Organization (WHO) is also a focal point, with conversations planned with prospective candidates for the next WHO Director-General.

WHS President Axel R. Pries underscored the urgency for innovation and collaboration in health systems, stating, “Past achievements and continued progress in global health are increasingly challenged by multiple and overlapping crises. To build resilient, effective, and equitable health systems, we need innovation across biomedicine and technology, financing, delivery, and political coordination. This requires partnership and trust within and beyond the health sector and is at the heart of the World Health Summit 2026 leitmotif.”

During the official WHS press conference, several significant announcements were made. Diene Keita, Executive Director of UNFPA, spoke about the Government of Bangladesh’s landmark investment of 250 million euros in women’s health, which is supported by the European Investment Bank. John-Arne Røttingen, CEO of Wellcome, introduced the Wellcome Global Monitor 2026, which highlights a decline in public trust in science since the COVID-19 pandemic. Ilana Ron Levey, Managing Director at Gallup, presented findings from the State of the World’s Emotional Health 2026 Report, which explores the link between social media usage and emotional well-being.

The main program of the Summit is being livestreamed for free access, allowing a wider audience to engage with the discussions.
