From the Boardroom to the Boxing Ring: The Story of a Former NYC Marketing Executive Who Created a Successful Airbnb Empire in Orlando

In an inspiring display of determination, resolve, and entrepreneurial zest, Nick Wang, once a promising marketing executive in New York City with a significant salary, has now made headlines not for his boardroom tactics, but for his surprising venture into Airbnb and Muay Thai.

A little over a year ago, Nick, who holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University, chose to leave his office in Manhattan for a Muay Thai training camp in Bangkok, Thailand. “I was earning $500,000 a year, but something was missing. I needed a challenge, something to really test my mettle,” said Nick.

During his time in Bangkok, staying in an Airbnb to stick to a strict diet required for his training, Nick discovered that his host was managing more than 50 properties via a strategy known as rental arbitrage. This discovery occurred as Nick was embracing his first Muay Thai fight, just 30 days after beginning his training.

Inspired by this business model and armed with practical insights into its potential, Nick returned to the U.S., setting his sights on Orlando, Florida, known for its dynamic tourist market, to launch his Airbnb business. “Orlando’s vibrant tourism and entertainment scene was the perfect fit for an Airbnb venture,” explained Nick.

The beginning was fraught with challenges as Nick navigated the complexities of Orlando’s real estate market and worked to build trust with property investors. His perseverance eventually led him to an agent with access to multiple properties from Chinese investors, resulting in his first five Airbnb listings.

Today, Nick manages over 30 properties, transforming his vision into a thriving business. His journey from high-stakes marketing to the intensity of Muay Thai, and subsequently to the success of his Airbnb enterprise, is not merely a career change but a transformation of a passion into a lucrative entrepreneurial endeavour.

Nick’s tale is a compelling testament to how diverse experiences can come together to create unanticipated opportunities. “It’s about the fight within,” Nick remarked. “Whether in the ring or in business, the same principles apply. You need discipline, resilience, and a willingness to step into the unknown.”
