Dutch-German Vion Food Group Receives Assistance from RSM Ebner Stolz in Sale of German Portfolio Divisions

Vion Food Group, a Dutch-German company in the meat and food industry, recently announced the sale of several of its facilities in Germany. The group has sold its Altenburg site in Thuringia, which specializes in cattle slaughtering and production of pre-packed consumer products, and the ham specialist Ahlener Fleischhandel in North Rhine-Westphalia to the Tönnies Group. Additionally, the group has also sold Vion Perleberg, one of the largest fresh pork marketers in Brandenburg, to Schlachterei Uhlen GmbH from Lower Saxony.

The divestment processes were successfully completed within a short period of time, with the transactions subject to antitrust approvals. Approximately 700 employees will be transferred to the respective buyers.

RSM Ebner Stolz, a leading auditing and consulting firm, acted as the exclusive M&A advisor to Vion Food Group in all three transactions. The firm provided comprehensive support throughout the entire process and assisted in negotiations with the buyers.

According to Vion Food Group, the sale of these facilities is part of a larger strategy to adjust their activities in response to the current market conditions in Germany. The outbreak of African Swine Fever has led to the loss of important export destinations, while declining meat consumption and increased competition have also impacted the industry. The group aims to focus on more attractive market segments and regions moving forward.

With 28 production sites in the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium, as well as sales organizations in sixteen countries, Vion Food Group is currently one of the largest meat enterprises in the world. The company is a member of RSM International, allowing them to provide high-quality auditing and advisory services in 120 countries worldwide.
