Debunking Myths: The Real Value of Black Friday Deals

Last Updated on: 23rd November 2023, 09:50 am

A recent survey involving UK consumers revealed a surprising statistic: 58% of them are under the impression that Black Friday doesn’t provide significant value for money. Contrary to this belief, a new study highlights that British shoppers actually enjoyed an average discount of 13% on Black Friday purchases last year.

The study, executed by MyVoucherCodes, delved into the top-selling items across 12 different categories to ascertain which offered the most substantial savings. It was discovered that beauty products led the pack in Black Friday savings, closely followed by baby & kids, photography & video, and fashion categories. For those aiming to enhance their appearance, Black Friday presents an ideal opportunity.

The beauty sector stood out during the Black Friday sales, enticing consumers with an average markdown of 22%.

The allure of Black Friday deals is undeniable, often surpassing other sales events in terms of attractive discounts and offers. However, the plethora of deals can sometimes obscure their true value, leading to impulsive buying and subsequent regret. A 2021 survey by Which? found that a significant number of buyers regretted their Black Friday purchases.

Sarah-Jane Outten, a savings specialist at MyVoucherCodes, commented: “The age-old debate about which major sales event provides the most savings has finally been settled. Black Friday unmistakably emerges as the superior choice for anyone looking to stretch their budget and grab the best deals.

“For savvy shoppers, it’s all about timing. This data tells us that consumers can make a huge impact on their wallets by choosing the right day for their online shopping. An average 13% discount on products is nothing to sniff at, especially during the holiday season when every penny counts.”
