“Crewe Welcomes Bentley’s New Engineering Hub for Advancing Electrified Innovations”

Bentley Motors, a luxury car manufacturer, has officially opened its new Engineering Technical Centre at its carbon neutral headquarters in Crewe. The state-of-the-art facilities were unveiled by Chairman and CEO, Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, and Board Member for R&D, Dr. Matthias Rabe. This new centre will play a crucial role in the company’s preparations for future model development.

The Engineering Technical Centre is part of a larger investment in future facilities and products at the Pyms Lane factory, where all Bentley models are handcrafted. The centre, spanning two floors and covering 13,000 sqm, brings together virtual and physical properties to facilitate collaborative working throughout. It includes a prototype workshop for future models, materials development, and a software integration department. The centre will also support the harmonious integration of skills in training, testing, and launch preparation for software and electrical, digital high-voltage systems.

The majority of these departments were relocated from their previous home in the A1 building, the oldest structure on the Pyms Lane site. The A1 building will be transformed into a BEV assembly plant in time for production to begin in 2027.

Dr. Matthias Rabe, Bentley’s Member of the Board for R&D, spoke about the company’s plans for the future. He said, “Our Beyond100+ strategy outlines a fundamental program of change, utilizing what is known now and adapting that vision as we embrace yet-to-be-discovered technologies. We are working on the next generation of electrified driving, digitally connected cars, and autonomous driving that will offer the highest levels of luxury mobility. This new Engineering Technical Centre is a crucial component in delivering this strategy and will help turn engineering concepts into reality as we continue to create the most luxurious and performance-oriented vehicles on the market.”

Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy will see the company reinvent its entire product range to align with an electrified future. The opening of the Engineering Technical Centre will support these ambitions, alongside additional expansions on the site. These include the recently opened Design Studio and the ongoing construction of the new Paint Shop and Integrated Logistics Centre, set to open next year.
