Age UK Somerset is urging residents of Somerset to participate in a brief survey in order to provide valuable insights for the development of a new Dementia Wellbeing and Connection Programme. The program, which is initially targeted towards the Sedgemoor area, aims to enhance the wellbeing and reduce isolation of individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, while also connecting them with their local communities.
The proposed program will offer a variety of support services, including a Dementia Choir for social connection through music, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) groups, and a personalized home-based CST program. This home-based support is intended to cater to those who may face challenges attending group sessions due to mobility issues, limited transportation, or rural isolation. As part of the program, transportation services are also being considered.
Age UK Somerset acknowledges the difficulties faced by individuals affected by dementia in accessing support, particularly in rural communities where resources may be scarce. In order to ensure that the program meets the specific needs of the local community, the charity has launched a community survey and is seeking feedback from individuals living with dementia, caregivers, professionals, and local community organizations.
The insights gathered from the survey will directly influence the development of the program and will also assist Age UK Somerset in securing funding to implement the proposed support services.
