Codasip, the leading European RISC-V company, has announced today that it has initiated an accelerated process to sell the company. The decision was triggered by early interest from potential buyers after the company expressed its interest in being acquired during its recent funding round.
Based in Munich, Germany, Codasip has received grants and equity funding from various bodies of the European Union (EU) and national authorities, totaling over €119 million. This amount is expected to increase with additional funding of €210 million in follow-on phases, and the potential for €51 million more in future financing through new consortiums and projects. This significant funding, which can be transferred to a buyer under reasonable terms, has attracted the attention of potential buyers.
The company has officially launched the sale process today and plans to complete it within the next three months. The board is open to offers for the acquisition of the entire company or portions of it.
Codasip has four main product areas, each with its own research and development (R&D) team. These include Studio™, an electronic design automation (EDA) tool for developing and customizing processors; a portfolio of standard application and embedded RISC-V processors; a portfolio of processors and complementary software based on CHERI, a cybersecurity standard; and a portfolio of high-performance application processors. The company has a team of approximately 250 employees, with 57% being hardware engineers and 30% being software engineers. Codasip prides itself on its leading RISC-V processor development capability, which is all located in Europe.
