Big Issue North Unleashes 2026 Calendar to Paw-ssist Those in Need

Big Issue North and Street Paws Join Forces to Support Homeless Pet Owners

In an effort to shed light on the often overlooked issue of homelessness and pet ownership, Big Issue North has partnered with Street Paws, a charity dedicated to making hostels and emergency accommodation more pet-friendly. The collaboration aims to raise awareness and support for individuals and their beloved pets who are facing homelessness in the north of England.

Despite the newly passed Renters’ Rights Bill, which grants more tenants the right to live with their animals, many homeless individuals still face the difficult decision of choosing between keeping their pets and finding a place to stay. While the new law prohibits landlords in England from imposing blanket bans on pets, there is still much work to be done to ensure that no one is left without a home because of their pet.

To bring attention to this important issue, Big Issue North has released their 2026 calendar, titled “Pets and the Power of Companionship,” in collaboration with Street Paws. The calendar features stunning animal photography and heartwarming stories of resilience and connection, all showcasing the strong bond between homeless individuals and their pets.

Each animal featured in the calendar has been supported by Street Paws and belongs to someone experiencing homelessness or insecure housing in the North. Among them is Nathan, a Big Issue North vendor, and his dog Rolo, who sell the magazine outside Manchester Piccadilly station. Nathan shares how Rolo has been a constant source of motivation and support during his time of homelessness, saying, “I tell all my regular customers; I’m trying to save up for a camper van so I can travel the UK with my dog.”

The calendar not only aims to raise awareness but also provides support for homeless individuals and their pets. All proceeds from the sale of calendars purchased from vendors go directly to them, while online purchases and sales through stockists support Big Issue North’s wider work.

Ben Stevenson, Service Manager for Big Issue North, highlights the crucial role that Street Paws plays in supporting both people and their pets. He says, “We see every day how important the bond between people and their pets can be. Stories like Nathan and Rolo’s – and the others highlighted in the calendar – show how valuable the work of an organization like Street Paws is.”

To support Big Issue North’s wider work, including their partnership with Street Paws, individuals can visit justgiving.com/bigissuenorth or text BINORTH to 70970 to make a donation. To support Street Paws directly, donations can be made at donate.justgiving.com/charity/street-paws.

The Big Issue North 2026 calendar is available for purchase from local vendors or online at shop.bigissuenorth.com. By purchasing a calendar, individuals can support a good cause and help those in need earn an income and build a better future.
